Tunisia-Burkina Faso: Tribute to Tunisian ITCs experience

(TAP) - Tunisia took part, on June 17-21, in the works of the Third Pan-African Forum on "Security of Information and Communication Networks in Africa" and best practice of ICTs, held by Burkina Faso.

During the Forum, in which took part 339 officials and representatives from 55 countries, Tunisia was picked as a reference, given its approach in matters of ICTs development and Tunisia's honourable in 2008 and 2009, by the Davos Economic Forum.

The Tunisian experience in the field of information technology security, notably that of the Tunisian postal service (diversification of services and adoption of virtual school) in addition to the presidential project of electronic post, were also presented during these works.

Opening the Forum works, President Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso lauded the Tunisian achievements in all fields, not to mention the political will and the accuracy of the choices made by President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali.

Mrs. Lamia Chafai Sghaier, Secretary of State in charge of Information Technology, Internet and Free Software who headed the Tunisian delegation in the works of the Forum, placed emphasis on Tunisia's political will to promote the ICTs sector.

She reviewed the outlines of the Tunisian strategy in the field of information technology security.

The Tunisian approach rests on an adequate regulatory framework, an exceptional institutional environment and skilled human resources, the Secretary of State pointed out.

For his part, Mr. Hamadoun Touré, secretary-general International Telecommunications Union (ITU), highlighted the Tunisian experience in matters of ICTs.

Besides, he reminded of Tunisia's successful organisation of the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS), in November 2005, specifying that the Pan-African Forum is held as part of the follow-up of the recommendations of that Summit.

On the fringes of the works, Mrs. Sghaier conferred with several ministers on means to strengthen co-operation and partnership.
